Why did you choose Sheffield?

I was trained as a microbiologist but moved over to molecular genetics as I felt this was rapidly changing the field of biology. After moving away from Sheffield to pursue more applied aspects of my research I returned and made the jump to engineering. Although I maintain strong collaborative links with basic researchers within biology and ecology, I felt the engineering faculty, and specifically Chemical & Biological Engineering in Sheffield, was making significant progress and leading the way in multi-disciplinary research. Hence it felt right to be here and particularly in the context of my own research vision. As for Sheffield- its an easy place to live, it's a city but with a smaller town feel meaning there is enough going on and easy to escape from it all.
